Research

Currently, an expansion of the book 'A Country Working for the Banks' is being carried out. This book explores the high concentration in the Colombian banking system and its impact on competition, profitability, and socioeconomic equity. Through the analysis of the financial statements of the top ten banks in the period from 2000 to 2022, we aim to understand how this oligopolistic structure affects the gross interest margin and the institutions' ability to maintain stability in the face of financial crises.
Furthermore, the study addresses the lag in the democratization of credit in Colombia, contrasting the apparent lack of interest from regulators and banking entities in promoting it, with the constitutional mandate that should guide their actions.

Alliance for Fiscal Policy and Equity in Colombia
This project represents a collaboration with the GLOSAS research group from the Law Faculty of Universidad Nacional de Colombia, aiming to establish and analyze the relationship between equity and fiscal policy. It focuses on the historical processes of the republic's bicentennial era and the current situation, broadening our understanding of the national reality and aiding in solving structural problems. The alliance has specifically investigated the redistributive impact of public spending and tax collection.

Situational analysis
This project, spearheaded by our dedicated analysis and outreach subgroup, focuses on dissecting and publicizing key issues pertinent to Colombia. Through a series of targeted events and publications, the project aims to bring our research findings to a wider audience, fostering informed discussions and influencing decision-making processes within the Colombian context.

Student Incubator and Research Training
We operate a dynamic student incubator, designed to inspire involvement in the development of various academic products, projects, and publications. Participants receive comprehensive training in both quantitative and qualitative methodologies, along with skills in data management and collection. This initiative is a key project of our group, reflecting our commitment to fostering the next generation of researchers and professionals.

Pensions, Thinking of a Better Future
This interdisciplinary project rigorously investigates and devises comprehensive policy strategies to address the challenges facing Colombia's pension system. It adopts a holistic approach, encompassing a historical review of the system, a critical analysis of existing reform proposals, and a comparative study with international pension models. The aim is to develop pragmatic policy recommendations grounded in thorough research. The culmination of this extensive process will be published in a comprehensive book, serving as a definitive resource on the evolution and potential future of Colombia's pension system.
